Sexapalooza!!!!!!!

As several of you noticed and took the time to point out, I didn't blog last night. Yes, I do that from time to time. I was in a very foul mood last night and didn't want to write as I was somewhat leery of what was going to come out. So I opted to grab my book and curl up in my bed instead.

I was still in a bad mood when I got up this morning. I had a very restless sleep last night and kept waking up so that didn't help matters any. When I logged into my Facebook, I discovered that some very smart people gave me some very smart advice over night and that started making things better. I got to have a pretty lazy morning at home and then decided to go out and have some fun, since I obviously don't need anyone else to help me do that.

I went to Sexapalooza. It's a trade show that was happening at the Convention Center and it was a blast. It's designed and geared towards women and couples. It's an educational experience and a fun on too. They have a main stage where presentations and shows happen, along with seminars and education sessions. While there, I saw a mini-show by a Burlesque troop which involved a strip tease that ended with a giant Jalapeno pepper being set on fire (it had a sparkler in it), a fan dance, two different belly dance performances and a sexy swing dance performance. It was great. I also saw part of the Canadian Hot Bodies show which features male exotic dancers. Wouldn't you know it, the first guy out was dressed like a fire fighter. LOL. I only saw his routine though as the women there were insane and I was starting to fear for my safety, but it was a hoot. Clearly, since it's a public event, the don't take ALL of their clothes off.

The show also had a sex museum, a whole mess of exhibitors and a dungeon. Now I don't know if some of the "kinkier" facets of sex have become more mainstream thanks to Fifty Shades of Grey or if they've been there all along and no one really noticed them before. The Dungeon was something else. You definitely needed an open mind for that one. All of he people in there were super nice and incredibly eager to answer any and all questions. They were giving demos on how to properly spank your mate, how to play with wax and how to correctly tie up/retrain your play mate. There was one other demo but I have no idea what the heck it was. I have to admit that I learnt some interesting new fact about a few things. Can't say that I'll ever use that info unless Jeopardy holds a "Random Sex Trivia" competition, but it was kind of fun to see it all in such a casual setting.

The sex museum was neat and my favourite part was a listing of strange laws from Canada and the USA about sex, flirting, dating and just general male/female interactions. It made for a good laugh. I did have one traumatizing incident while looking around and surprisingly, it didn't happen in the dungeon. A lot of the exhibitors sold sex toys, aids, lingerie, movies etc... While wandering though one such place, they had a "Just Beaver" (yes, Beaver) blow up love doll for sale and there was a young man pictured on the box who looked very much like Justin Bieber. That grossed me right out. LOL.

There were a couple of health type places there like one place doing pulse analysis and another doing posture analysis. There was also the local chapter of Birth Right (a planned parenthood type of place) and a great group who are running an anti-bullying campaign. And there was a booth selling exotic candies. Mostly sucker shaped like penises. I picked a few up for myself and a couple of friends :) Oh yeah! And there was some poor guy walking around who was dressed up like a giant penis. I was standing next to a man who said "Hi Dick" as the poor penis man walked by. I wonder how many times he's heard that one this weekend.

I spent just over 2.5 hours there. I enjoyed myself and I have to admit that I was surprised and impressed by the number of "older" people there. As in probably 10-20 years older than me. Granted, by the time I left, a lot more of the younger people were coming in but it was rather interesting to see the diversity of the ages of people there.

Ottawa gets a good deal of flack for being a "reserved and conservative city". We're not. And I see that we're breaking out of that shell more and more. The Ottawa show is 4 days long where-as the Toronto version is only 3 days long. That's kind of cool. I was a little surprised to see that Montreal didn't have one though.

Anyhow, that was my adventure for the day. I'm rather sleepy now so I think it's time to head to bed and dream of half naked firemen. LOL.

Good Night!

Game On!

Have I mentioned how happy I am to have hockey back? Well I am. I missed it. I really did. I am a true Canadian woman, so I love me my hockey. LOL.

There was no blog last night because I was out, cheering on my team and it was on the late side by the time I got home.

For her birthday, I gave my friend Steph a ticket to the Ottawa vs. Montreal game. It turned out to be almost a better present for me than her. We managed to escape work at a pretty decent time and got to the arena before 6pm, which was awesome. Not only did that mean that we got a pretty sweet parking spot, but we were also able to wander the building without fighting the crowds.

We opted to eat dinner at the rink and we had massive poutines for dinner. We lucked out and one of the ushers was handing out coupons for the place that sold the poutine. The suckers were huge and neither one of us finished ours.

Being at the rink early gave us a chance to watch warm up too. Steph was pissed because Montreal's #1 goalie wasn't playing and neither was the new guy they'd just signed. I was happy with my line up, even if Spezza was out with an injury.  The game was a good one. It was pretty fast paced (when the referees weren't blowing the whistle every 5 seconds) and there were 2 fights in the first 5 minutes. Things settled down after that.

I've missed seeing hockey live. It's so different when you're sitting in the stands, surrounded by fellow fans, cheering on your team. The sights, the sounds, the smells - they're all awesome. And it all adds to the experience and enjoyment of the game. It's the sort of thing that I think everyone should get to experience. Even if you're not a huge sports fan, there's enough stuff there to keep you occupied. Just watching the people is entertaining enough. Like the girls who were drinking their beer through a straw. Or the puck bunnies in the row behind us or the poor guy down in the 100s who got hit in the head with a stray puck. I guess he missed the warning about flying objects coming over the glass.

We hung out at the rink for a bit after the game, waiting for the parking lot to thin out. That worked well and we didn't spend too much time in traffic. The city is building a new highway access ramp for the arena so traffic will be much better once that's done.

Even though it was almost midnight by the time I got into bed, it was a great night. I had great company, great entertainment and my team cleaned house winning 5-1, which was the icing on the cake. I can't wait to go back and see my team play again.

Now it's time to crawl back into bed and try to catch up on some of the sleep I missed last night.

Good Night!

Christmas Lights Shenanigans

The work day flew by and it's about to get very busy 'round the office as the re-newals and re-hires for January begin. Which is good. Being busy makes the day go by faster.

I'm very happy because I got to pick up my new glasses tonight. YAY! Both pairs are great but the one pair is just awesome. They look great on me and I'm thrilled. The fact that I can see better is awesome too. Like right now. This means my eyes won't be so tired which hopefully will mean that I won't be as tired either.

So I had a fun evening tonight. It started with Stephanee asking me yesterday "Do you want to drive around and see some Christmas lights". I decided that sounded good so off we went this evening. Before she left to pick me up, Steph said "I'm just printing off the maps". Awesome. She gets here and as we're heading out to grab my glasses, she says "I printed off the maps, highlighted the maps...and then forgot the maps at home". LOL.

You know what that means. That's right. It's the "Steph and Sarah drive quasi aimlessly through suburbia" show!!!!!

First stop: Taffy Lane in Orleans. Since this street is almost bright enough to see from space, it shouldn't have been too hard to find. Not quite. There is quite the lack of street signs in Orleans. We ended up pulling into a parking lot and reading the map. Turns out, we were about 8 blocks from our destination. Awesome. Away we went. The street was awesome! Steph got the bright idea to get out and walk along the street, which made taking photos better but it's also -11 out, without the windchill. We did half the street before giving up and returning to the warmth of the car. Ahhhh. We drove the rest of the street and one of the other little side streets and then it was off to our next destination.

Here's some of the lights from Taffy Lane:

Barrhaven, in the opposite end of the city from Orleans. Our landmarks this time? One location is "Off Woodroff, then off Tierry". Found this one by accident. After driving around and aimlessly for a bit, we're driving a long a crescent and Steph asks "turn left or keep going". I voted for "keep going" which worked out well as street #2 was on the right around the bend. It was a cute little street. Not as well lit up as Taffy Lane, but still nice.

Ok, onto stop #3 with the directions of "There's a Tim Horton's on the corner". Seriously!??!? After going the wrong way at the Tim's and driving past the same park 3 times, Steph decides to try the other side of the Tim's and we hit gold. We found the house. It's one where the lights are set to music and the home owner broadcasts the music on a low frequency so that you can hear the music through your car radio. It was pretty darn cool and well worth the risk of getting lost in Suburbian hell. LOL.

I'm pretty sure we're the only ones who can turn looking at Christmas lights into an adventure. But it sure was fun :)

Good Night!

Christmas Lights and Beavertails

I feel like a bit of a rebel. I stayed out quite late this evening, especially since I have to work tomorrow. LOL. It's funny. I'm a grown woman and can come and go as I please yet I still think it's naughty or whatever to stay out late on a "work night". I know, crazy. As I was coming in my neighbour down the hall was heading out to hockey so I guess I'm not all that late.

It was a very fun evening. Myself, Xtina and 3 co-workers all headed up to Parliament Hill to see the kick off celebrations for "Christmas Lights Across Canada". They were very nice.

It started with someone doing a mini-concert on the Peace Tower Bells and then a youth choir sang (they were really good) and there were a few speeches, more singing, and then they lit the lights and some fireworks went off and the capital was all lit up.

We all managed to get candles too, so that we could be part of the "lights" on the hill. I'm pretty sure everyone of us got wax on ourselves and/or out mitts/gloves.

After the show, we did a quick tour of the back of Parliament Hill and then went to the Chateau Laurier to warm up and see the Trees of Hope. One of us attempted to turn the hotel into a wax museum but dropping not one, but two candles on the floor, each of which left a nice pile of hard wax behind. And it wasn't me. I swear.

Once warm, we opted to hit up the Beavertail stand since the line up on the Hill had been way too long.

So off we went. Despite it being friggin' cold, we all took off out mitts to each the wonderful creation that is the Beavertail. I had apples and cinnamon on mine and it was amazing. I haven't had a Beavertail in about 2 years so it was a real treat. Factor in that I was really hungry and cold and that made the Beavertail seem like the most delicious thing ever.

We then decided that we needed real food so we wandered over to the mall and ate at the restaurant there. It was very nice. They stuck us downstairs next to a group having an office Christmas party so we had a little bit of entertainment along the way. Atleast I think it was a Christmas party. Who knows.

All in all, it was a great evening/night spent with some very cool people. We got to participate in a some very Canadian activities, kept re-lighting each other when the damn wind kept blowing our candles out, player tourist, got a little sticky, had some good food and had quite a few laughs. That's definitely my kind of fun. Except for the cold. That wasn't very nice. LOL.

Good Night!
